The Network on Science and Technology Indicators – Ibero-American and Inter-American – (RICYT), with the participation of all the American countries, Spain and Portugal, was created by the CYTED Program after a proposal arisen from the First Ibero-American Workshop on Science and Technology Indicators carried out in Argentina in 1994. Its beginning became effective in April 1995. Currently RICYT is carrying on the project ”Towards an Inter-American System of Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators. Basic Platform”, funded by the Organization of American States (OAS). The objective is to build an information system based in the needs of the American countries, created as a complex network that encourages the national capacities at regional level. This project is based on the experience achieved during the execution, until 2001, of the project "Regional Science and Technology Indicators". RICYT takes part as observer in the NESTI Group, of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). In addition, RICYT works jointly with the Organization of Ibero American States (OEI), the UNESCO Institute for Statistics, the Executive Secretariat of Convenio Andrés Bello (SECAB), the Caribbean Council for Science and Technology (CCST) and the Commission for Scientific and Technological Development of Central America and Panama (CTCAP) (http://www.ricyt.org/interior/interior.asp?Nivel1=5&Nivel2=1&Idioma=ENG). |
